Q: Are you paid or volunteer?

All of our members are volunteer.

Q: How do I become a member?

First you need to fill out an application.  You can download one under the Volunteer section.  From there you may email the form back to our email address or stop by on Tuesday nights after 7 to drop it off.  While your there pull up a chair and listen into training and meet the team.

Q: How old do I have to be to become a member?

We accept members to the department as young as 16 years of age.  From 16 - 18 (still in school), you are considered a Junior/Explorer.  You are allowed to come to trainings and may ride out on a call but not participate in any hazardous activity until 18 years of age is reached and finished with school.

Q:  What training do I need? 

No training is needed, but you will be required to attend weekly trainings.  Our members are enrolled into the State Firefighter's and Fire Marshalls Association to achieve their Fire I and Fire II certification. 

Q:  How long is training?

For the SFFMA program training normally takes around 6 months.  During this time you are expected to keep up with weekly assignments.  This program is also self paced so really, it's up to you!

Q: Do I need to live in Howe to become a member?

We prefer our members to at least reside in our call area.  However, we have current members which live in Howe, Sherman, and Van Alstyne area.  Send us a note on the "Make A Difference" tab to verify.
